  1. De Kracht van Anonimiteit
    Pim

  3. Hackers: A Catalyst Culture
    Rommert

In his paper 'Hackers: A Catalyst Culture' Rommert Zijlstra clarifies the difference between crackers and hackers. He explains the motivations and ethics that drive hackers and, most importantly, argues why hackers perform an essential service which propels technological progress. "Hackers are catalysts for technical innovation", claims Zijlstra.

  4. Anonymous: activism in a new media environment
    Schellebeek

The article focuses on the tension between institutionalized media users and a growing amount of hacker genres that claim the “media environment” as “a venue for participation, speech, interaction and creativity”. Van Schellebeek uses the net-activism of Anonymous as a case to elaborate on Lievrouw’s analysis of the hacker communities and her division of the hacker’s media environment in different genres of oppositional media.

  5. Algorithmic Video Art: an internship report
    Anna

New media are continuously subjected to debates centering on their legitimacy as (independent) art form. Especially the fusion of art and science makes this question very delicate in the field of computer graphics. In her internship report, Anna Sonnemans describes the evolution of graphical computer art, the hybridization of art and science, and the role of the algorithm in computer art.
